I will always try to give a time frame for each painting once I have received the photograph you would like me to work from. Much will depend on the size of the portrait and whether or not it has a detailed background. Oil paintings are gradually built up layer by layer, so it is a longer process than some other mediums. Typically a portrait takes between 30-70 hours to complete depending on its size and complexity. Also, it is very important for the paint to be fully dry before it is packaged and sent to you. Drying time takes around 10-14 days. If you are on a waiting list I will of course let you know when I begin your portrait and will give you updates on its progress. I always photograph the completed portrait and email it to you to ensure you are completely happy before it is sent to you.
What if I’m unable to get a good quality photograph?
I do urge people to send the best quality photo possible as the higher the resolution, the more detailed and accurate your portrait will be. If the person or pet has sadly passed away, I’m still more than happy to see your photos even if you are unsure about their quality for a portrait, from that I can assess whether I will be able to work from it.
What size should I choose?
This will depend very much on your personal choice and also whether you would like a single or double portrait. In Pricing you will see which dimensions would be most suitable for your requirements. I’m very happy to help if you are still unsure.
What background should I have?
You may have a photo with a scenic background that you would like to include. If budget is an issue or you don’t want to keep the existing background in the photo I can easily replace this with a tonal background that is complementary to the subject. If you would like any suggestions please don’t hesitate to ask.
What payment method should I use?
Payment can then be made through online banking. If you prefer, I do accept payment via PayPal although please be aware that they charge a fee for this service.
How will my portrait be packaged?
All paintings will be securely packaged starting with cellophane to protect the paint followed by a layer of bubblewrap, thick card and a sturdy outer box. This will ensure your painting will arrive safely but all paintings are insured for your peace of mind.
